A seaside resort
in the north of the county with a magnificent view of the Lakeland mountains
across Morecambe Bay on a clear day. It remains a popular holiday resort,
despite the unworthy panning given it by clever dicks from London, and
is the perfect stop off on the way to the Lakes for those travelling
the country.
It was known by many Yorkshire millworkers as "Bradford-on-Sea". It
was only in 1878 that the area became known as Morecambe and it soon
became known for its shellfish industry - the Morecambe shrimp became
a delicacy throughout the country.
Morecambe's Stone Jetty complete with bird statues and Eric Morecambe
tribute are a must see, and though closed the Midland Hotel's stunning
art deco look is worth a look, expecially if you're a fan of the Poirot
television series. The town has its own multi-screen
cinema and the Platform
arts venue, and hosts regular festivals.

a permanent and changing show of work by artists and craftspeople from
the area. There is no public gallery in Morecambe so this is the only
