Hilton
Dawson MP
Lancaster & Wyre
Labour
In 1997 Hilton Dawson, with a majority of 1,295, became the first Labour
MP for this seat since Stanley Henig in 1970. A pre-election promise
to co-operate with the Greens over traffic and transport brought the
tactical support necessary for this popular local man to cross the finishing
line. An impromptu visit from Margaret Thatcher on May 26th that sparked
off a near-riot in Market Square didn't hurt either.
