22 J P Slidewell. The Robert Gillow. JP Slidewell is a singer of traditional folksong. Further to that, he is a tremendously good one who is rapidly making a name for himself in the clubs and festivals throughout Britain. Accompanying himself on guitar he sings mostly English, with some Scottish and Irish, songs and, to quote ‘Rock’n’Reel’ magazine: “his command and singing are note perfect and the music full of emotion and passion”.

24 Electric StrawbsElectric Strawbs. The Platform, Morecambe. The show will start at 8pm and tickets cost £14 adults, £13 concessions from the Box Office on 01524 582803. The Strawbs first hit the charts in the UK and Europe in the early 1970s with ‘Grave New World’ and ‘Bursting at the Seams’. From the mid 70s they concentrated their attention on the United States and Canada where their albums spent over 52 weeks on the Billboard charts. They toured regularly with the likes of Santana, Peter Frampton, The Eagles, REO Speedwagon and Frank Zappa.

This talented trio comprises: Pat, who plays guitar, whistle, fiddle and mandolin; Teresa, who plays harp, cello, violin, viola, keyboard and guitar; and Jeff, who plays percussion, bass, keyboard, guitar and mandolin - and they all sing! As you might expect from this list the music they perform is also a complete mixture - traditional folk, contemporary song, self-written material and jazz numbers. Ever-changing, always dynamic.
